Healthy water is the foundation of healthy salmon smolts. At Aquaintech Inc., we have developed Bacillus-based tablets that improve water quality and reduce harmful bacteria in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), helping hatcheries maintain resilient, disease-free fish.

In salmon smolt production, the microbial environment can be challenging. Secondary pathogens such as Flavobacterium psychrophilum and F. columnare can lead to skin and fin lesions and account for 40–90% of mortality in hatcheries. If left unmanaged, these bacteria can carry over into seawater pens, creating ongoing risks for fish health.

Our solution is simple and effective. By adding one 10-gram tablet per 10 metric tons of water daily directly to the biofilter, the Bacillus spores colonize the system, stabilize the microbiome, and inhibit harmful flavobacteria. In trials, we have seen up to a 95% reduction in Flavobacterium colony-forming units, even at very low application rates.

These harmless Bacillus spores work naturally to enhance water quality, maintain healthy microbial communities, and protect fish — without antibiotics or chemicals. Daily application ensures maximum effectiveness and supports consistent, sustainable production in RAS facilities.

Biotechnology has the power to make aquaculture safer and more sustainable. Our Bacillus tablets provide a practical, proven tool to reduce pathogen risks, improve salmon smolt health, and maintain system stability.
